April 2, G20 Summit

London will host the G20 summit: this is a financial summit convened to talk about the global economic crisis, but will probably be the first occasion that new US President Obama will meet Chinese President Hu Jintao face-to-face. Tibet Groups in the United States and other G20 member states (where the International Tibet Suppot Network has member organisations, such as the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico and Russia) will be urging their leaders to multi-laterally raise the issue of Tibet with President Hu.

April 25: Panchen Lama's Birthday

The eleventh Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima will turn 20 today. On May 14, 1995, when he was only 6 years old, the Chinese government abducted him and his family. He has been missing ever since!

Celebrate the birth of the eleventh Panchen Lama by reminding the Communist Chinese regime that we will never forget him and will continue demand his release until he is free.

Events to mark Gedhun Choekyi Nyima's birthday:

Dharamsala India - Tibetan NGOs will be performing street theatre, distributing leaflets, holding a candle light vigil followed by a film screening. Start time 11am Tsuglakhang temple.

April 18 - The 17-Point Agreement Repudiated

April 18, 1959 - A press conference was held where H.H. the Dalai Lama formally repudiated the 17 - Point Agreement signed in Bejing in 1951.

[Note: Before entering India, the Tibetan Government was formally re-established at Lhundup Zhong, a border town in Tibet where the Tibetan government formally repudiated the 17 - Point Agreement]

* 17-Point Agreement was signed on May 23, 1951

Mr. Harry Wu will join Tubten Khétsun, a Tibetan who spent two decades performing forced labor for opposing the Chinese occupation of Tibet, in discussing the current situation in China and Tibet.

April 17: Global Action Day (Dhasa)

Several Tibetan NGOs grouped under the Tibetan People’s Uprising Movement (TPUM) Tuesday vowed massive worldwide protests to condemn recent death sentences passed on Tibetans by Chinese court.
