On 2 December 2002, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche was sentenced to death with a suspension of two years while Lobsang Dhondup was sentenced to immediate execution. Lobsang Dhondup was executed shortly afterwards, and after intense international pressure, Tenzin Delek’s sentence was commuted to a life sentence on 26 January 2005. He still remains in prison somewhere in Sichuan Privince.

Talk Tibet - Commemoration of the Dalai Lama's Nobel Peace Prize

Since H.H. the Dalai Lama received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, the Tibet issue has become well known around the world. Tibetans have immense public support, and yet no political solution has been achieved.

We will be celebrating the Dalai Lama's Nobel Peace Prize with a lecture on Chinas strategy toward Tibet and a screening of the movie "What remains of us" about the current situation inside Tibet.

Tibet Festivals - "Thank you India" programme

Tibetan Women's Association, Guchusum Movement for Tibet, and Students for a Free Tibet - India chapter in partnership with 6 local Tibetan NGOs from Gangtok will organise a Tibet Festivals from 6-10 Nov 2009 in Gangtok, Sikkim.

There will be three penal discussions on the topics: Tibet's Environment, Tibet in Exile, and Significance of Tibetan culture. Many renowned Indian experts are invited to take part in the panel discussions.

This is the first time that such programme is organised in Gangtok and therefore, the local Tibetans have high expectation from this festivals. The organiser hopes to extablish better relations between Tibetan and local Indian communities. Moreover, the organiser also wish to invite many members of Legislative Assembly to the functions, and a special dinner gathering with them.
