Losar News
Information from Tibet filters out through different avenues. We learnt from blogs, news agencies and human rights groups that many Tibetans inside Tibet have opted not to celebrate 2009 Tibetan New Year to mourn many Tibetan lives that were lost last year.
To counter this simple yet powerful act of solidarity and defiance, Chinese officials in many ares in Tibet were forcing Tibetans to celebrate Tibetan New Year. Radio Free Asia reported that in one county in eastern Tibet, local authority has ordered families to hoist Chinese Flag on roof tops on the first day of the Tibetan New Year. They declared it 'Red Flag Day'! Reports have been received that the Chinese Government is forcing Tibetans to celebrate Losar (see Times report link below). Not only is this a clear infringement of human rights, it demonstrates the Chinese Government's attempt to cover-up the reality of the situation in Tibet and its obsession with superficial appearance and propaganda.
