Tibet Lobby Day in the US

Tibet Lobby Day, Washington, DC - March 1, 2

Tibetans and supporters gathered in Washington, DC for the second annual Tibet Lobby Day (March 1 & 2).  Over sixty people from across the US participated in the two day Lobby Day and approached about eighty senates' and representatives' offices.

The lobby effort presented a good opportunity for Tibetan Americans and American supporters to commend the principled position the US government and congress has taken on the Tibet issue.  With growing supporters and Tibetans Americans spread across the US, we also made the point that Tibet is also a constituent issue.

There were few groups that were able to meet with actual senators or representatives, but majority of the meeting happened with key office staffers. During these meetings, we raised few key asks, including but not limited to:

1. Tibet provision in Foreign Relations Authorization Act (including Lhasa consulate)
2. A resolution of support for a negotiated solution for Tibet.
3. Sustained funding for Tibet appropriations
4. Tibetan Immigration Legislation
5. Advocacy for Tibetan political prisoners
6. Focus on climate change and Tibet (the "Tibet Third Pole")

The citizen lobbyist expressed much satisfaction after their meeting and most of them noted that representatives (or staffers) were very supportive of the Tibet issue and knew a lot about Tibet.
